In the summer of 1990 (the hottest on record for Phoenix until the 2020s) I traveled to Alcoi, Cocentaina, and Valencia to establish collaborations that would be the basis for more than 20 years of research in in eastern Spain. I still work with many of the colleagues I met with on that trip.
